The Paintings

Every painting has a name and a story, and all have been inspired by something special that caught my attention. I mostly use Sennelier, Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith watercolour paints, and my favourite brushes are Escoda - Buy good brushes and they will last you for decades!

It is best to always paint on
300gsm cold-pressed-paper.  I used to buy Arches' pack of 10 'full sheets' for better value, but then I discovered the Canson pads of 100x A3 sheets and have never looked back.

Most of these paintings
were done sitting on my couch, with the paint board and gear resting horizontally on an ottoman in front of me.

My water bowl, brushes, and all my other bits and pieces, sit on my wooden cutting board (on the 2nd ottoman), just above my colour palettes.

My three palettes are
: My big boy set, my medium sized 'day out' set, and favourite of all, my 'traveller' set.

Sometimes I take my painting bag down to the pool,
sit under the umbrella and enjoy a creative afternoon with refreshments, and kids having splashing around in the background. (The kids were the inspiration for paintings #73 & #76).

At home I always use A3 sheets, but if there’s less space I’ll paint on A4, and if travelling, I always have blank watercolour postcards with me.

I really LOVE doing postcard paintings when time or space is limited ie at the airport or at a coffee shop on a Sunday morning.  It is amazing what sort of fun you can have painting in a more limited setting.

(Painting #4 Bloom’n was done in an airport lounge.)
